‘The Running Man’: Colman Domingo Lands Game Show Host Role In Edgar Wright’s New Reimagining At Paramount

EXCLUSIVE: After tapping Glen Powell to play the titular role in their new Running Man movie, Paramount Pictures and director Edgar Wright now have the man who will be hosting the show as sources tell Deadline Colman Domingo is set to play the host of the world’s most dangerous game show. The film is based on the novel by Stephen King that the author published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman with Wright directing.

The film, which also has cast Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra, has a November 7, 2025 release date. Wright is also co-writing the script with Michael Bacall, and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.

The Running Man was made famous by the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.

While Schwarzenegger was the star his game show counterpart in the film, played by Richard Dawson, stole show. Sources say in this version, the TV exec played Brolin will be more of the central villain but given how important the role was in the original, Wright and execs were aiming high with who they wanted in the part ultimately landing on Domingo.

The Oscar-nominated actor best known for roles in Rustin and his Emmy-winning role in Euphoria, has had quite the year that began with his critically acclaimed role in A24’s Sing Sing. The film earned him several accolades including a Golden Globe nomination. He was also recently seen in the Netflix series The Madness and also recently landed a role in Steven Spielberg’s next film.
